Engineers Week 2021 takes place from Saturday February 27th – Friday March 5th. This Saturday, the Irish Hedgehog Survey from the Ryan Institute at NUI Galway is teaming up with craftsman Patrick Broderick and the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life to engineer some hedgehog solutions for your garden.
Spring is just around the corner and the spiky ones will soon be emerging from hibernation. Following their winter sleep they will be hungry! Hedgehogs can travel a kilometer or more every night looking for tasty beetles, worms and caterpillars. On Saturday we will look at some ways that you can help hedgehogs in your garden by making a hedgehog feeding station and setting up hedgehog highways to help them roam at night.
Members of the public are invited to become citizen scientists and take part in the Irish Hedgehog Survey by recording hedgehogs wherever you see them. You may also become a volunteer to take part in the countryside hedgehog survey next summer. Find out more about the Irish Hedgehog Survey here.
Here is a little leaflet with some tips for making your garden more hedgehog friendly.
